“Native Americans believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dreamcatcher when hung over or near your bed swinging freely in the air, catches the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams know how to pass through the dreamcatcher, slipping through the outer holes and slide down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeper does not know that he/she is dreaming. The bad dreams not knowing the way get tangled in the dream catcher and perish with the first light of the new day.”
I think the lore behind the dreamcatcher is so pretty and mystical that I decided to make my own. I love turquoise and the ocean, so I decided upon a “mermaid” theme when creating mine. I bought beautifully colored turquoise feathers and beads to intermix between laces and was excited to display a seashell that a friend brought back to me from New Zealand within there as well.
Making one is actually easier than I thought. You can follow the directions I used here.
